My First Official Event - Pacesetter Lunch

I should preface this post by saying that I interned with United Way for a year prior to my being hired as the Events Coordinator in March 2008. So, although this was 'my' first event, it was, in all actuality, my 11th event to be a part of.

To give you a timeline to reference, this is how it happened:

May 10, 2008 - Graduated from OU
June 2, 2008 - First day as full time Events Coordinator
June 13, 2008 - Pacesetter Luncheon

That's right. Not even two full weeks on the job, and I had to pull off my first event. It was a surreal experience. I had chosen the venue, picked the menu and attended the exact same event the year before, but this was different. This time, it was mine. This time, I was in charge. This time, I was terrified. But, when all was said and done, it was a great event.

Event highlights:

I finally met our 2008 campaign chairman, David Thompson, Publisher of The Oklahoman and CEO of OPUBCO Communications Group

We had a packed house

We even had a visit from our 'IRS Experts' Merkle and Milton (United Way employees)
